ECZ Suspends Five GCE Examination Centres Over 2025 Irregularities

The Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) has taken decisive action to safeguard the credibility of the country’s education system by suspending five (5) General Certificate of Education (GCE) Examination Centres for a period of two years. This follows serious examination irregularities recorded during the 2025 GCE examination session.

Five Centres Suspended Across Multiple Provinces

In a statement released in Lusaka on Thursday, 27th November 2025, ECZ announced that the following centres have had their Examination Centre Status revoked:

  • Chovwe Day Secondary School GCE (Code 6295), Kalumbila District – North-Western Province
  • Kabanda Secondary GCE (Code 6209), Mwinilunga District – North-Western Province
  • Kampampi GCE (Code 2627), Nchelenge District – Luapula Province
  • Yolo Secondary GCE (Code 1696), Nakonde District – Muchinga Province
  • Twatotela GCE (Code 9057), Lusaka District – Lusaka Province

The suspension, effective for two years starting 2026, means these centres will not be allowed to conduct any examinations until the suspension period elapses.

Over 1,800 Examination Results Nullified

In addition to the suspensions, ECZ has nullified examination results for:

  • 1,654 GCE candidates whose results were linked to malpractice at the suspended centres.
  • 151 candidates from Mungwi and Kaputa Districts in Northern Province and Chama District in Eastern Province who wrote the 2025 Junior Secondary External Examination.

The nullifications were made in accordance with Section 26 (5) of the ECZ Act No. 3 of 2023, which authorizes the Council to invalidate results obtained fraudulently or through examination malpractice.

ECZ Warns Examination Centres, Encourages Compliance

The Council has issued a stern warning to all registered Examination Centres across the country against engaging in conduct that compromises examination integrity. ECZ emphasized that both the management and administration of examinations must strictly adhere to the Guidelines for the Administration and Management of Examinations.

The Council encouraged centres to uphold professionalism before, during, and after examinations, stating that this is vital in maintaining the credibility and international comparability of Zambia’s assessment systems.

Candidate Advisory

Prospective candidates are advised that the suspended centres will not run examinations during 2026 and 2027. Candidates are encouraged to seek alternative, accredited examination centres within their districts or provinces.

ECZ Reaffirms Its Commitment

Public Relations Manager Mr. Nicolas Nkhuwa, who issued the statement, reiterated ECZ’s unwavering commitment to delivering credible assessments. He stated that the Council will continue to enforce measures within the law to protect the integrity of national examinations.
